ABBY SEN

REVIEW - HINDUSTAN TIMES

Abby Sen brushing shoulders with some of the greatest films for the Most Mushy Moment (Telegraph T2 - April 12)

That moment when Parama (Raima Sen) confronts Abby Sen (Abir Chatterjee) and accuses him of having an affair with another woman. No, they hadn’t conveyed their feelings to each other yet but there was so much brewing between them already. In that scene after a heated argument the two finally hug and we know.... This particular scene from Atanu Ghosh’s sci-fi film Abby Sen is so poignant and so romantic that the aftertaste lingers long after. Read more at TELEGRAPH

RUPKATHA NOY IS HONOURED TO RECEIVE 4 FILMFARE AWARDS

BEST DIRECTOR AWARD FOR RUPKATHA NOY

BEST DIRECTOR AWARD FOR RUPKATHA NOY AT NOIDA FILM FESTIVAL

Competitive Section - Dhaka International Film Festival 2014

A film that gives immense fulfillment stemming from its intelligence and sensitivity -

 8/10 ANANDABAZAR PATRIKA

There is humour underlined in almost every situation, which is strongly established by a well-knit script and intelligent dialogues. The characters seem real and so is the plot. A smart director that he is, Atanu Ghosh has assembled a cast that’s simply superb…

3.5/5 – TIMES OF INDIA

Not many would have the courage to make a film without an undefined plot or, rather, with several little plots converging on an unexpected spot in a Kolkata park that is occupied as a matter of habit by an old pensioner. He is the pivot around whom the director manipulates his view of a decadent environment…

THE STATESMAN

The narrative is seamless, and everything falls into place like different pieces of a jigsaw puzzle and yet leads to an open ending

8/10 INDIAN EXPRESS

In Rupkatha Noy, he (Atanu Ghosh) creates a bouquet with characters whose inner world, their conflicts, dreams, despair, aspirations, emptiness, desire to escape a void drive the narrative that unfolds in a checkered manner structured by a stylized script that springs to life through visual leitmotifs of a spiral stairway, a wooden bench, a defunct typewriter, a petrol pump…

REVIEW- PROTIDIN

TAKHAN TEISH

Takhan Teish is a film that makes you look back at your youth with a great deal of nostalgia and yearning.…..What’s so endearing about the film is that it’s a very neatly told. Scripting is tight. Dialogues are wafer-crisp, often funny. If there’s an undercurrent of romanticism, it’s never allowed to get mushy…..But more than anything else, it’s the overall quality of acting that makes you fall in love with the film.....Barun Chanda/THE TELEGRAPH

The script by the director himself makes it a point to be almost defiantly original, breaking down all the accepted principles on human relationships and making it abundantly clear that human conduct has to be seen for what it really is below the surface………It stirs the mind, indeed provokes discerning audiences to come to conclusions that may or may not be valid….It reaffirms that, even in a market-driven industry, there is still space for serious cinema.....Rating 4/5 - Swapan Mullick/THE STATESMAN

TAKHAN TEISH is an official selection in the International Panorama section of the SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2011

If Atanu’s choice of theme of changing relationships in a world governed by virtual proximity is contemporary, his structuring of the movie, that oscillates between the world of fantasy and reality, is radically engaging...Rating 3.5/5 - TIMES OF INDIA

A lyrical ballad that transports adolescent desires and its crisis to mature into a philosophical perception of life….Rating 8/10 - ANANDABAZAR PATRIKA

At last a film that addresses intelligent and sensitive viewers—exploring desires and the complex routes they take—and yet in a film language that is so simple! And the transparent innocence that Jisshu plays out!....Samik Bandopadhyay
